Hunedoara Castle, also called Corvinilor, Cirnieștilor or Huniazilor Castle, is a medieval fortress of Hunedoara, one of the greatest gothic architecture monuments of Romania. It was built in the 15th century by Ioan de Hunedoara on the place of an old fortification, on a cliff at whose bottom the Zălăști stream is flowing. It is a grandiose building, provided with towers, strongholds and a dungeon. The castle was a restaurant, later transformed into a museum. The fortress was one of the greatest and most known features/properties of Ioan de Hunedoara. The building has been through many significant changes, serving both strengthened strategic point and feudal residence. Over the years, various owners of the castle have modified it's look, enriching it with towers, rooms and guest rooms. Though the castle is still in renovation, it anually attracts thousands of tourists, having 71 thousand visitors in the first half of 2010.
