De ce zic englezii "six foot long sau "ten foot long" etc. cand e vorba de o grinda de lemn (de exemplu). De ce nu zic "six feet", "ten feet" etc.

Yes, when the phrase is used as a whole to describe something (when it functions as an adjective phrase before the noun), you hypenate it and use the singular form of the measurement. Eg.: five-yard-long rope; six-foot-tall man; ten-year-old boy.
If the description comes after the verb you don't use hyphens and you use the plural form of the measurement. Eg: the rope is five yards long; the man is six feet tall; the boy is ten years old.

E o locuțiune verbală, echivalentul în română a „lung de x metri"/„are x metri lungime".

Răspunde Englezii nu folosesc sistemul cu picioare, americanii sunt destul de inteligenți ca să folosească picioarele ca unitate de măsură(yeah, they're so smart!), deci nu te mira că ei spun foot în loc de feet.
Si unii, si altii tot singularul folosesc. Primii zic "six foot long", iar ailaltii (mai smart?) zic "six yard long". Deci tot intr-o oala sunt.
Six cu foot acolo impreuna formeaza un atribut si se acord cu long... Asta e explicatia mea... Dupa logica mea.
Chiar atribut fiind, putea fi six feet. Six cere un plural.
Cand un substantiv ia functie de atribut pentru n altul, primul, aproape intotdeauna se acorda la singular.

Who cares? Pai uite ca noua ne pasa. Nu vrem sa inghitim pe nemestecate. Vrem sa-i tragem la raspundere, sa se justifice:-)
Spune-mi si mie textul ala de mai sus, in engleza, de unde l-ai luat. Iar regula asta cu subst. care ia functie de atribut, de care vorbesti mai apoi, la care limba se potriveste (ro., eng.)?
La english. Si textu ala l am luat de pe google. Era exact aceeasi polemica tratata. Si banuiesc ca te a ajutat la ceva. Adica, trebuia sa pun linkul, ca sa nu se zica apoi ca plagiez
